What Price? Technology

There are several forms of the chemical in breast implants that can cause a problem in the human organism. Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, commonly referred to as BIA-ALCL, is an extremely rare type of cancer that researchers have discovered may have a possible association with particular kinds of breast implants. More than 400,000 women undergo breast augmentation surgery every year for either reconstructive or cosmetic purposes.

Medical professionals have recently identified a rare form of cancer called breast implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Because of gaps in implant sales data, it is difficult to determine the rate of breast implant-associated Kevin David ALCL, but the FDA estimates that 1 in 3,817 to 30,000 recipients could be affected.

Worldwide, research into the safety of breast implants has continued over the last 30 years. Although the required studies would still be funded by and conducted by the implant companies, the FDA had input into the scientific design of the studies to address the short-comings of previous research.

With the safety of implants in question, women who want augmentation but aren't comfortable using any devices could opt for using their own fat. Since silicone is easily shapeable and does not cause an adverse reaction in the human body, technology in the field has advanced drastically.

The following is a list of local complications and adverse outcomes that occur in at least 1 percent of breast implant patients at any time. Women with silicone implants should have their breasts examined annually by a plastic surgeon and should continue to undergo routine screening for breast cancer.

We also introduce a growing body of knowledge and medical case reports that provides evidence that silicone causes various cancers in women. The average length of times with implants was 7 years for reconstruction and 8 years for augmentation; women who had implants for less than one year were included.

You may want to consider either saline implants instead of silicone, or to not have the surgery at all. Seizures have been reported as a symptom by some women in the breast implant illness groups. Some women develop infections around the surgical site, and the implant must be removed in order to allow the infection to be treated.
